I did use mono-merge to get the latest version, which included
mono 1.2.x (x dont remember the minor, but happened 2 -4weeks ago),
xsp same version and mod_mono.
The problems included mod_mono/xsp not being able to serve the requests,
more often than not it will just offer the user to save the aspx file,
the workaround
for this was to restart the mono server few times (using the /mono handler).
There were some zombie threads as well.
mono 1.1.13.8 (I think the latest in the general ports tree) and xsp 1.1.8.x
did the job.
I didn't have much time to debug, but will look into it in the near future.
Though mono 1.1.13.8 + xsp 1.2.x is a bad combination, causing all kinds of
weird problems..
Just my experience.
