Ok, first, I just finished building tellico packages for Debian
unstable, testing and and Ubuntu dapper. They are at
http://www.imalip.info/tellico/pre/
The build for testing is on the way.

Note that until I find a clean way to host both stable and development
version to be used with apt, there are only standalone files you need to
download and install manually (with "dpkg -i"). The files for unstable
are those with a version number in '-1', those for other distributions
are in "-1~distribution". The directory also contains the diff and dsc
files.

If you want the package for another distro, please ask. Building them is
only a matter of running a small script and copying the files.

Tellico (Bookcase before) has been in Debian unstable and testing for
more than 3 years. And in Ubuntu universe since at least Hoary.

You could have a look at debhelper. Some people use cdbs as well.

Well, for tellico, I maintain the debian/ directory is in the SVN
repository, so it's fairly easy.

For other software, it really depends on their complexity, but there are
some good tutorials around (the Debian New Maintainer guide IIRC).
