low speed with big images

Hi
as i said in a previous post people who have big (from
3 to 20 mb, probably png files) images in their
collections (maybe film covers) use to feel an
important speed lack because of this. when going to
load an entry probably tellico has to create at
runtime 2 thumbnails: one for the window where you can
edit the entry, and another smaller that is shown when
you select the entry.
if this is true i think you should change this. a way
to improve the program is to create those thumbnails
only once (the first time that are needed) and them
you could save them into the data folder. you could
have 3 subfolders, 1 for the real image and 2 for
medium and small thumbnails (i think there's no
problem by using the same name for all them, so it
would be easier to manage their names).
by doing it this way when selecting an entry you only
need to load a pair of smaller images (and you could
even load firstly only the smaller one, and load the
intermediate if the user tries to edit the entry, and
ONLY if it decides to take a look at the tab where you
can set the image). i'm sure that at your tabbedPane
(or whatever name it has at QT) you can detect when a
tab is selected, and then you can load the image.. if
the tab of the image is not selected you don't really
need to create/load the intermediate thumbnail.
considering that you only need extra disk space for
the thumbnails (that is, small files) disk
requirements wouldn't be a problem.
regards
