Hi,

I just committed some performance improvements to SVN trunk which should 
decrease the time needed to open or close files. I've tested several 
configurations of options and file types, and it seems to be ok, but if 
anyone sees anything funny going on, please do let me know.

I plan to have 1.2.4 out this weekend, then branch trunk for the 1.2.x 
series.
