Please note that I mean the field value 17a vanished, not the complete
entry. But I cannot reproduce it ...
I suggest you verify field entries after each change of type.

I tried it and it works. Please note that the default description for
this new field is %{Nummer}%{Nummernsuffix} (German variables), whereas
title still defaults to %{year} %{denomination} %{description} (English
variables). Since you write translated field names into XML this is a
little bit inconsistent (and it's hard to guess English variable names
in a localized environment).
I also noticed that the content of %{Nummernsuffix} (a text field) and
the title are capitalized but I selected no formatting *and* disabled
automatic formatting in the config dialog. So I get 17A which is
different from 17a.
