It's required by the amazon terms of use. Like you found out, you can just 
delete the field. A trifle annoying, I know, but what can I say...

The Yahoo search used to, but they broke it, and it doesn't really work 
anymore. I've left it in the source since I'm trying to be optimistic, but 
repeated emails to their support list about the audio search being broken 
haven't seemed to work.
