Actually it's not a matter of the desktop you use (I run Gnome, too), but
of the development packages installed. It is pretty easy to rebuild for
your system. If you don't want to have MB of development stuff installed
on your system, you can do it with pbuilder or cowdancer, so it all goes
into a chroot.

Hopefully I will manage to get a correct internet connection at home soon,
so I can build and upload backports...
