What makes you think it is "not longer possible"? Is it the warning message that is throwing you off, or is the config file not being written properly?
If you want to represent a physical partition as a virtual partition (rather than as a virtual disk) you will have to manually enter the virtual partition (e.g. hda1) since yast will only allow you to select it as a disk (e.g. hda). If you enter it as a virtual partition, you might receive a warning message, but it is only a warning.

Can you give more details about this such as the specific scenario?

What happens that makes you believe it is not installable? What is the error message?
There are some known issues with SL 10.1 (as it was released before SLES 10) that will be addressed in openSuSE 10.2, but there should be a workaround for each of them. For example, there is a problem when installing SL 10.1 from CD/DVD. linuxrc will automatically drop you into manual mode (a blue and red screen will display an error message). However, if you ignore the message and accept all the default settings, the install will proceed correctly.
Reply with your specific problem and we might be able to help.
